Patricia Highsmith
In 1999 the world was introduced to the award-winning film The Talented Mr. Ripley starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jude Law. You may not know that the film is based on the 1955 novel of the same name, written by Patricia Highsmith. What is also not widely known is that, before reaching international acclaim as a novelist, she worked in comics between 1942 and 1948 while working on her first novel, Strangers on a Train (1950).
Writing for the Sangor-Pines shop, she scripted the Sergeant Bill King series and is also credited in Black Terror and Fighting Yank.
Other credits include Jap Buster and The Destroyer at Timely (later to be Marvel Comics). The Fawcett Comics Crisco and Jasper is also included in her writing credits.
